Abstract

Seeing the importance and wide applicability of the Watershed Transform and morphological operations in the segmentation of image and videos in broadcasting, together with the dependence of medical areas on new technologies to increase efficiency and reliability in medical diagnostics, was applied the essence of the multidisciplinarity of scientific research in the development of a blood diagnosis algorithm. The present study to the objective of developing a segmentation algorithm that attend the criteria of efficiency and reliability for detection and counting of blood cells. The detection of various types of diseases can be done through of the blood, where erythrocytes count (RBC) and leukocytes (WBC) can be performed using automated and/or manual methodologies. The simulations of the algorithms used 30 images of fields of microscopy of blood smear. The results showed that the algorithm hybrid of the Watershed transform with the morphological operations present high accuracy (93%). The simulations of the algorithm executed in different physical machines presented average simulation time and processing time, less than 3 seconds per sample. Therefore, the algorithm based on the Watershed transform and morphological operations is an accurate, reliable and low-cost technique, and can be applied as a third methodology to perform the laboratory tests and to help further in the agility medical diagnostic.
